What Is Considered an Orthodontic Service?
What do you think of when you hear the term “orthodontic service”? Perhaps braces immediately come to mind – but what else? While dental services focus primarily on teeth alone, orthodontic services include any specialty treatment focused on aligning your bite or straightening your teeth.
At Jones Orthodontics in North Carolina, we offer a range of orthodontic services including metal braces, ceramic braces, and Invisalign®. In this blog, we’ll discuss the benefits of each of these orthodontic services as well as your options during orthodontic emergencies, too.
Metal Braces
Metal braces are very strong and correct most types of orthodontic bite problems. One of the biggest benefits of metal braces is the typical treatment time – they tend to be the quickest route to a straightened smile.
Visit our Jones Orthodontics Braces Academy Video Series for information on how to care for your teeth while wearing braces.
Ceramic Braces
Ceramic or clear braces have the advantage of being strong and sturdy like their metal counterparts, but they are a bit more discreet since they blend in with teeth fairly well. This is great for teens and adults who may feel self-conscious about having traditional metal braces.
Invisalign
If you want to straighten your teeth but wish to avoid braces, Invisalign might be your preferred path. Invisalign treatment uses a series of strong plastic trays made especially for you, each worn one week at a time.

Other Services: Orthodontic Emergencies
Occasionally, orthodontic services may be needed after hours. Accidents happen – we get it.
Sometimes it can be difficult to decipher between an orthodontic emergency and something that can wait until your next regular appointment. For example, if you run out of rubber bands or orthodontic wax, you can stop by our office to pick some up even if your appointment is a few weeks away. On the other hand, a broken bracket or poking wire causing pain or discomfort should be resolved quickly. If you are unsure where your situation falls, please give us a call to double check.
At Jones Orthodontics, we are proud to offer an after-hours hotline for our patients. In case of an orthodontic emergency outside of our normal business hours, call our Patient Manager at (919) 799-9581. This emergency line is available to patients Monday through Friday from 5:00pm-9:00pm as well as Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00am-9:00pm. Leave a message clearly stating your name/patient’s name, give a brief description of the emergency, and give your contact information. Our Patient Manager will return your call as soon as possible.
